Itinerary
Combined with a breathtaking guided morning tour, you can slow down the pace so you can fully experience Muir Woods, the giant redwood forest nearest to San Francisco. Board your tour in San Francisco and cross the 1.7-mile Golden Gate Bridge on your way to the historical monument. After arriving at serene Muir Woods, you’ll spend free time exploring this natural treasure set aside by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908 as a national monument.
Then, you’ll re-board your tour vehicle and head off to Sausalito, a seaside community full of charm and unforgettable views of San Francisco.
You’ll have time for lunch and browsing some of the charming shops and take pictures against the city skyline across the bay.
Please note the roads and walkways on Alcatraz are steep. The distance from the dock to the Cellhouse is approximately 1/4 mile (.4km) and the elevation change is 130 feet (40 meters), the equivalent of walking up a 13-story building. The roads and walkways are wide with several places to stop along the way to rest and take in the breathtaking views. Comfortable athletic or walking shoes are strongly recommended.
